They really do help in playing at conventions when you have players who are totally new to the system and/or the period.

Different base sizes have different meanings: All Squares are CO's or HQ's and are able to give commands to other units. All Hexes are combat units and have attack dice. All Circles are non-combat stands that do not have attack dice, like trucks. Also FOO/FAC's are on circles as they do not have attacks and they don't issue commands, but they can call for fire support. Finally, all Octagonal bases are recon and fall under that special abilities.

The Hex was chosen for a few reasons, but for game play it is has the ease to determine rear attacks or a forward 180 for fire (draw a line between the middle hex corners) and for units with restricted arcs of fire, you drew an line from the back angles. It is greater angle then in the book, but works well for convention games.sapperjoehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11851863340366393341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6713065305733038296.post-55796536822825598212009-11-13T12:47:26.749-06:002009-11-13T12:47:26.749-06:00Why the hex-shaped stands?
