Are you a proper Wargamer?

On several of the blogs that I follow have been running the following questionnaire about how much of a “proper” wargamer are you.  I always question what does it really mean to be “proper”, but that is an argument that does not apply to this fun excise.  So here we go…

* Spent at least £500 on figures / tanks - and you get extra kudos for every £500 you've spent

Really? Just 500 GBP? Maybe per year…But I can honestly say that I cut my purchase amount so that it is well under 500 GBP per year for the last few years.

* Pricked your finger or thumb on a pike block - several times

None, but is because I really never played around pike blocks.  However, 25 years ago, I use to glue nails on my bases with the points up for something to pick up the base with and for the same purpose of having something to draw blood from another player who didn’t care where he slams his hand down.

* Tried at least 10 different rule sets and vowed never to play half of them ever again

10?  Really?  Amateurs…

* Bought an army off EBay

What defines an army?  But yes, I have bought painted miniatures from eBay.

* Sold an army on EBay

Not yet, but I have sold tons of unpainted figures on the TMP and some other wargaming forums

* spent months painting an army - then used it in anger once

Yes, oh yes

* tried several different periods and genres

Who can only game one?

* dropped a box of figures on the floor from a great height

Yes, oh yes…several times.  The highest was five stories.  Thanks for reminding me...

* lost a battle on the last throw of the dice

No, usually it was decided much earlier

* made at least one enemy for life

Yes, but not due to gaming…at least my reasons was not due to gaming.  I can’t say if anyone hates me due to gaming.

* had a proper, stand up argument over a wargamers table

Yes, oh yes…

* thrown a dice across a room

Err, thrown dice or thrown a die…sorry.  No, not even accidentally

* rebased an army for a different rule set

Yes, oh yes…

* inflicted a whopping defeat on an opponent

In my mind, some were fairly whopping, but others could argue that

* suffered an embarrassing defeat due to a stupid tactical decision

Never been embarrassed by a lost, but yes

* joined a wargamer’s club

Yes and once was an elected chairman

* bought a ton of lead that remains unpainted

Yes, oh god, yes…the horror, the horror

The EPA requires me to post my basement prior to sorting my unpainted miniature for sale

* been to a wargamer’s show

Several

* have more dice than is logical or necessary to own - and have used most of them

Yes, but proudly I can say that I sold off most of them as well

* have taken boxes of troops down to a club just to show them off to your mates

Yes, oh yes…

Cheers

Joe

Hi Joe,

I used your answers to Phil Broeder's list for a wider analysis of the questions. You might be interested in the results. See here:
